St. John’s Episcopal Church - Sunday, December 10

From Fr. Ray +

Our guest musician for the Second Sunday of Advent will be flutist Ms. Kelly Herrmann.  You may recall that Kelly provided beautiful music for our Thanksgiving Service a few weeks ago.  We look forward to having her with us again this week. Advent and Christmas are especially good times to invite friends and family to worship with you at St. John’s.  If you know someone who does not have a church home, please invite them to join us as we prepare for and celebrate God’s presence with us in the Christ Child.  As always, ALL are welcome!

Christmas Eve falls on Sunday this year, so we will have our usual 10:30 a.m. service as well as our Family Christmas Eve Eucharist at 5:30 p.m.  We are fortunate that Ms. Hermann (the flutist) will be with us again for our 5:30 service.

During Advent the Adult Sunday School Class will spend four weeks on a video based course entitled FAITHFUL: Christmas Through The Eyes of Joseph. All are welcome!

Congratulations to Drew and Megan Fielder on the birth of their son William Henry Fielder on Sunday, December 3.  Baby Fielder weighed in at 9 lbs. 5 oz. and is 21 inches long.

New Cross in Garden!

The next time you are at church, take a moment to visit the Garden and see the new 7-foot wrought iron cross behind our outdoor altar. This lovely cross is patterned after the Processional Cross we use at our regular services and is a gift from one of our members in honor and memory of Otis and Ruth Howe.

Blessings, Fr. Ray+

From Fr. Ray +

This coming Sunday, November 12, we will be enjoying a potluck lunch following worship. Meat will be provided, so please bring a dish to share.  If you are unable to bring a dish, then bring yourself.  There will be plenty!

Also, please bring your 2018 Pledge Card and place it in the offering plate this Sunday.  If you cannot be present for worship you can mail your card to the church office at P.O. Box 770, Helena-West Helena, AR 72342.

Many in our congregation have asked me how D’Andrae is doing at the Booneville Human Development Center. He is enjoying Booneville and is learning many new skills.  I speak with him regularly and he always asks that I tell everyone “Hello” for him. He is planning on being home for Thanksgiving for a brief visit with his mother and siblings and will be in church on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.  If you would like to drive to Booneville and pick him up, please let me know.  I will be taking him back to Booneville on the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Weekly class topics and dates remaining are as follows:

November 5 and 8:  Worship and Liturgy Part II

November 12 and 15:  The Diocese of Arkansas and St. John’s Helena-West Helena
