WORSHIP& EDUCATION NEWS:
 
ADULT EDUCATION: Class will meet at its regular time (9:00 am Sunday) and continue with its study of Matthew.
SUNDAY SCHOOL: Will meet at the First United Methodist church at 9:00 am under the direction of Jill Pillow until June and then break for summer.
 
WORSHIP: May 24th, Holy Eucharist Rite II at 10:30 am with Rev. Jay Biedenharn from St. John’s, Memphis.
 
READINGS for May 24th, Whitsunday, the Day of Pentecost: Ezekiel 37:1-14, Psalm 104:25-35, 37,  Acts 2:1-21, John 15:26-27; 16:4b-15.
 
MIDWEEK HOLY EUCHARIST will be in the chapel at 5:30 on Wednesday, May 27th with Unction and prayers for healing.  This will be our LAST midweek Eucharist for a while because Rev. Arnold Hearn will be on vacation the month of June.
 
FELLOWSHIP NEWS: May 24th is Whitsunday or the Day of Pentecost when we celebrate the Holy Spirit descending on Christ’s disciples.  In order to celebrate this wonderful gift from our Lord, everyone is encouraged to wear RED and come casual.  Immediately following the service we will celebrate with hot dogs and homemade ice cream.  The Rev. Jay Biedenharn from St. John’s Memphis will be with us this day along with his wife, Louise and 18 month year old daughter, Dorothy.  It is Memorial Day weekend also.  MARK YOUR CALENDARS and COME CELEBRATE!

St. John’s Good Samaritans (ECW):  Please feel free to call Maureen Jones (404-697-7197) or Jeannie Turley (870-816-6387) if you are in need of some help with errands or transportation or food, or if you would just like some company.  These and other members of the church have graciously offered their time to assist anyone needing help.  If you would like to volunteer services, please let Maureen or Jeannie know.

BOYS 2-4 yrs.; Onesies, shoes & socks, pants and tops.
BOYS 5-9 yrs.; T shirts, jeans, shoes & socks, shorts and shirts.
BOYS 10-14 yrs.; T shirts, jeans, shorts, shirts and flip flops.
A basket for the collection of these items will be in the narthex every Sunday.
 
Angels of Grace –The item from their wish list this week is laundry detergent for the women’s shelter. Please place you items in the plastic tub at the stair landing just outside the chapel coming up from the undercroft. 
 
CHURCH OFFICE NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENS:
 
HURRAY! HURRAY! CONSTRUCTION IS OVER!  The church looks great after weeks of construction, and Hurd Construction did an amazing job.  A big thank you to Ed Pat Wright who has worked so hard to help make our church reflect God’s glory.

FYI: Whitsunday is so named because the candidates for Baptism wore white on the Vigil of Pentecost.  Pentecost is celebrated on a Jewish festival called feast of weeks and takes place 50 days after Easter, hence the name Pentecost.  This is when the Holy Spirit of our Lord and Savior descended upon the Apostles.
 
ALTAR GUILD TEAM ONE (Susan’s team) will meet at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 30th to polish.

Secretary news: some good, some bad: The bad news is that Jody Bridges will be leaving us.  She has done a wonderful job and has been a blessing to all who have worked with her.  We will miss her, but she realized that she really did prefer retirement over work.  The good news is she introduced us to Marjie Hamilton who has been in training and will be keeping the same office hours, Monday – Thursday 9:00-12:00 noon, when Jody leaves.  Please stop by to greet and meet Marjie. A big thank you to Jody and a warm welcome to Marjie.
 
 
EXCUSE OUR MESS! Hurd Construction and painting has begun the tuck point project on our bricks which will preserve our building for future generations.  There will also be some painting done.  Have patience with us while we undergo this facelift.  We are almost finished!  (One more week at the most.)

Altar Guild news: We have a new wooden celebrant’s chair in the chapel to replace the old metal chair from the undercroft.  This was bought by the altar guild of our church and given in thanksgiving for the Howe family’s generosity to and support of the altar guild at St. John’s through the years.

This Sunday, April 26th, The Rev. Canon Louis Hayden will be with us again when we honor our two seniors (Rowland Brothers and Katy Mouritsen) after church with a luncheon. This is not a potluck.  Check with Lindalu to see if you want to help.  Mike Fielder and Paulette parker will entertain us all!
