WORSHIP& EDUCATION NEWS:
 
ADULT EDUCATION: Sunday at 9:00 am continues its study of Matthew.
SUNDAY SCHOOL (for age kindergarten through the 4th grade): Sunday at 9:00 am at the First United Methodist Church.  They are studying the life and teachings of Jesus leading up to Easter.
 
WORSHIP: March 15th, Morning Prayer at 10:30 am with Jack Myers as worship leader.
(Easter Lily Donation forms are now in your church bulletin & church office.)
 
Readings Sunday, Mar 15th: Numbers 21:4-9; Psalm 107:1-3, 17-22; Ephesians2:1-10; John 3:14-21.
 
LENTEN EVENING PRAYER: All Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during Lent at 5:30 in the chapel.  This week’s worship leader is Gina Pillow.
 
WEDNESDAY, March 18, we will have Holy Eucharist at 5:30 in the chapel led by Arnold Hearn followed by a light meal hosted by your Altar Guild.
 
FELLOWSHIP NEWS:
 
WEDNESDAY, March 18th, following the 5:30 Eucharist we will have our LENTEN MEAL hosted by your Altar Guild. 
 
PASTORAL NEWS:
 
St. John’s Good Samaritans (ECW):  Please feel free to call Maureen Jones (404-697-7197) or Jeannie Turley (870-816-6387) if you are in need of some help with errands or transportation or food, or if you would just like some company.  These and other members of the ECW have graciously offered their time to assist anyone needing help.  If you would like to volunteer services, please let Maureen or Jeannie know.

The Samaritan’s Purse: The Samaritan’s purse category for donation for MARCH is: Accessories for girls age 5-14 (bracelets, hair bands, hair clips, necklaces, rings and earrings). Accessories for boys age 5-1. (sunglasses, visors, caps, hats, flip flops, boxers, & T-shirts with no logos. 
A basket for the collection of these items will be in the narthex every Sunday.
 
Angels of Grace –The item from their wish list this week is tall kitchen trash bags for the women’s shelter. Their office is on 406 Pecan Street.
 
ALTAR GUILD NEWS
 
Saturday, March 28th at 10:00 am All altar guild members will meet to make palm crosses and polish silver.
 
Thursday, March 26th at 5:30 pm All altar guild members will strip the altar at the Maundy Thursday service.
 
Saturday, April 4th at 10:00 am All altar guild members will meet to prepare church for Easter.
 
CHURCH OFFICE NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENS: Easter Lily forms will be in your bulletin.  The price of the lilies is $16.00.  Please make checks payable to St. John’s Altar Guild.  The last day to turn in your Easter lily donation form and have it printed in the program is Tuesday, March 24. You may pick up these forms in the church office also.
 
Vestry Meeting on March 23rd at 6:15 p.m.
 
ECW: Women’s Institute applications are on the table at the back of the church.
 
The Helena United Methodist Church women cordially invite everyone to attend “Lenten Listening” services beginning Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18th at 12:00 noon each week.  These services will continue on Wednesday through April 1st.  Bring a sandwich and they will furnish beverage and dessert.  A nursery will be provided.  This week’s speaker will be Katherine Wright with music by Katherine and Rachel Wright.

Please come to St. John’s for worship and fellowship this Sunday, Feb. 15th.  The 9 a.m. Adult Class will continue to study the Gospel of Matthew and share homemade baked goodies during class.  Sunday school for kindergarten through 4th grade will its study of Jonathan and friendship and will meet at the Methodist church. Our celebrant for the 10:30 service will be Rev. Arnold Hearn. 
 
Readings Sunday, Feb. 15th: 2 Kings 2:1-12; Psalm 50:1-6; 2 Corinthians 4:3-6; Mark 9:2-9.
 
FELLOWSHIP NEWS:
 
Immediately following the service there will be food and fellowship in the chapel.
 
Next week’s schedule:
Shrove Tuesday Pancake supper on Tuesday, Feb. 17th at 6:00 pm.  Cost is $5.00 per person.

Lent starts February 18th at 5:30 pm in the chapel with Holy Eucharist and the disposition of ashes.  Arnold Hearn with be our celebrant.
 
We will have our regular Evening Prayer services on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during Lent.  On Wednesdays we will have Holy Eucharist followed by a light meal.  Jayne and Walter Morris will host our first meal after Eucharist on Wednesday, February 25th..

Grace Henderson has retired from her many years of service at St. John’s as a worship leader and lay Eucharistic minister.  We appreciate all her years of dedication and devotion to our Lord.  Thank you Grace.  You will be missed.
