St. John’s Episcopal Church                      Sunday, January 4, 2014
 
Please come to St. John’s for worship and fellowship this Sunday, Jan 4th.  The 9 a.m. Adult Class will focus on Holy Baptism.  Sunday school for kindergarten through 4th grade will not meet again until Jan. 11, 2015.  There will be a service of Holy Baptism for De’Andrae Clark during the regular Eucharist at 10:30 am.
 
Readings Sunday Jan. 4: Jeremiah 31:7-14; Psalm 84; Matthew 2:1-12; Matthew 2:13-15, 19-23.
 
Next week’s schedule: There will be no regular Wednesday midweek Eucharist for this week only.
 
There will be an Epiphany Festival of Light service followed by a “farewell” reception for Father Russ on Tuesday, January 6th at 5:30 pm. The church will provide all refreshments.
 
The parish extends its sympathy and prayers to Tait Owens and his family on the death of his mother, Ramsay Owens.
 
St. John’s Good Samaritans (ECW):  Please feel free to call Maureen Jones (404-697-7197) or Jeannie Turley (870-816-6387) if you are in need of some help with errands or transportation or food, or if you would just like some company.  These and other members of the ECW have graciously offered their time to assist anyone needing help.  If you would like to volunteer to pick up one of our older members who do not drive especially at night to ensure they can participate in all church activities, please let Maureen or Jeannie know.  Also, if you need a ride to church services, but cannot drive yourself, please notify Maureen or Jeannie.

New church address! We now have a P O Box 770, Helena AR 72342.  This was done to insure we receive all mail and it is not just left in the office door to get wet.
 
Immediately following the January 4th Sunday service, there will be a short vestry meeting in the church.
 
On January 12th there will be an ECW meeting at 5:00 pm at Lindalu Hargraves’ home.
 
January 14th there will be a vestry meeting at 6:15 pm.
 
Sunday January the 11th and 18th the Rev. Arnold Hearn from Marianna will be our supply priest at the 10:30 service. He will also be with us to celebrate the Eucharist on Wednesday, January the 14th and 21st.  On the 28th we will have evening prayer.
 
Humane Society of the Delta will sponsor a spay and neuter clinic on Jan 20th, 21st and 22nd in the undercroft.
 
Sunday, January 25th will be our Annual Parish Meeting with a pot luck lunch. Rev. Jason Alexander, Canon to the Ordinary will be our guest priest.
 
To my new St. John’s family: I wish to thank you for my beautiful Christmas poinsettia, but even more for the warm welcome you have extended to me.  Jody Bridges

Please come to St. John’s for worship and fellowship this Sunday, Dec. 28.  The 9 a.m. Adult Class will continue their study of the gospel of Matthew.  All are welcome, even if you haven’t attended previous sessions.  Sunday school for kindergarten through 4th grade will not meet again until after the first of the year.
 
Readings Sunday, Dec. 28: Isaiah 61:10-62:3,147; Canticle 3: Galatians 3:23-25; 4:4-7: John 1:1-18.
 
Next week’s schedule: Holy Eucharist on Wednesday, Dec. 31st at 5:30 with prayers for healing and unction.

Our prayers have been answered. Jody Malone Bridges has agreed to be our secretary/ bookkeeper.  The office hours will be Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am.-12:00pm.
Please give her a warm welcome.
 
 
New church address! We now have a P O Box 770, Helena AR 72342.  They will forward all 625 Pecan St. letters to our PO Box until Nov. 18, 2015.   This was done to ensure we receive all mail and it is not just left in the office door to get wet.
 
Financial Notice! All pledges and donations for 2014 must be turned in by December 31st in order for them to apply to your 2014 giving statement.  This is not our decision, but federal law.

A Big thank you to the altar guilds of St. John’s and Tait Owens. Without their dedicated hard work St. John’s would not reflect the glory of God so radiantly at Christmas time

Next week’s schedule:
 
Christmas Eve Holy Eucharist at 5:30 pm. We decided to try only having one Christmas Eve Service in order for everyone to celebrate together.
 
Christmas Day Holy Eucharist at 11:00 am.
 
All altar guild members will meet to hang Christmas greenery on Sunday, Dec. 21st at 3:30 pm.  Afterwards, we will go to Rio Lindo’s for our yearly get together.

MHM Navajo Christmas There are donation cards in the back of the church should you want to donate to the Mike Hardin Ministry for the Navajos.  We have sent them support every Christmas over the last several years.  I hope we will continue this support.

Mark your calendars. The First United Methodist church will host its Christmas Cantata on Sunday, December 14th at 5:30 pm.
 
Next week’s schedule:  On Wednesday, Dec. 17, we will have a mid-week Eucharist at 5:30 p.m.
 
All altar guild members will meet to hang Christmas greenery on Sunday, Dec. 21st at 3:30 pm.  Afterwards, we will go to Rio Lindo’s for our yearly get together.

Keep your church office in your thoughts and prayers. We are still searching for a secretary/bookkeeper to work about 20 hours a week.  Fortunately, Macon Kirkman has agreed to work in the office and man the phone for several hours on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to help us out doing the holiday season.  We are grateful to have an old St. John’s family member in our office.
