St. John’s Episcopal Church - Sunday, December 3

From Fr. Ray +

Advent begins this coming Sunday, December 3!  For each of the next three weeks, guest musicians will bless us with beautiful Advent music.  They are as follows:

                        December 3:  Everett Long

                        December 10:  Kelly Herrmann (flutist)

                        December 17:  Elizabeth Garcia

Christmas Eve falls on Sunday this year, so we will have our usual 10:30 a.m. service as well as our Family Christmas Eve Eucharist at 5:30 p.m.  We are fortunate that Ms. Hermann (the flutist) will be with us again for our 5:30 service.

During Advent the Adult Sunday School Class will spend four weeks on a video based course entitled FAITHFUL: Christmas Through The Eyes of Joseph. All are welcome!

New Cross in Garden!

The next time you are at church, take a moment to visit the Garden and see the new 7-foot wrought iron cross behind our outdoor altar. This lovely cross is patterned after the Processional Cross we use at our regular services and is a gift from one of our members in honor and memory of Otis and Ruth Howe.

Blessings, Fr. Ray+

Many in our congregation have asked me how D’Andrae is doing at the Booneville Human Development Center. He is enjoying Booneville and is learning many new skills.  I speak with him regularly and he always asks that I tell everyone “Hello” for him. He is planning on being home for Thanksgiving for a brief visit with his mother and siblings and will be in church on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.  If you would like to drive to Booneville and pick him up, please let me know.  I will be taking him back to Booneville on the Monday after Thanksgiving.

St. John’s Episcopal Church - Sunday, November 5

From Fr. Ray +

This coming Sunday, November 5, we will be observing All Saints’ Day. As is our custom, we will be reading a list of names of loved ones who have passed on.  Please call the church office at 338-8115 or email the office at office@saintjohnshelena.org with the names of those you would like to have read during the service.

Stewardship Thought

“I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare. In other words, if our expenditure on comforts, luxuries, amusements, etc, is up to the standard common among those with the same income as our own, we are probably giving away too little. If our charities do not at all pinch or hamper us, I should say they are too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot do because our charitable expenditure excludes them.” ---C.S. Lewis in his book Mere Christianity
