VESTRY NOMINATIONS

Three new vestry members will be elected to a three-year term at our Annual Parish Meeting following worship on January 29.  The three persons who have been nominated are Jack Hornor, Tap Jennings and Buff Brothers.  They will replace three persons who have completed their three-year terms and are going off the vestry.  Those going off the vestry are Mike Fielder, Lorraine Ferryman and Jack Myers.  Their service to St. John’s is greatly appreciated!  I will be announcing a new Senior Warden at the parish meeting and the 2017 Jr. Warden will be selected by the vestry at their first meeting.

Our annual meeting will be a joyful time of looking back at 2016 and looking forward to 2017 and beyond.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Blessings,  Fr. Ray+

From Fr. Ray

2016 was a year of changes and blessings for many of us. Of course, for Royce and me, the biggest change was also one of the biggest blessings of the year as we moved to Helena and became part of the St. John’s family!

As we begin this New Year I wanted to let you know some of the things that will be coming up at St. John’s. The following list is not exhaustive, and a few things may change as we continue to tweak them. However, this is a general overview of what is coming up at St. John’s this winter and spring:

  • January 29th   Annual Congregational Meeting with potluck following worship
  • February 28th Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper at church
  • March 1st Ash Wednesday Services (times to be announced)
  • Thursdays in Lent (March) @ Noon Picnic in the Pews in the chapel
  • Mondays and Tuesdays in Lent Evening Prayer
  • Holy Week Services: Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday
  • Easter Worship on April 16 with mimosas and Easter Egg Hunt following worship
  • To be determined date in May will be Graduation Sunday and potluck

New Year’s Blessings! -- Fr. Ray

CHRISTMAS EVE CANDLELIGHT SERVICE 5:30 P.M.

The four Sundays of Advent have come and gone.  The beautiful blue vestments and altar hangings have been put away for another year. Christmas is almost here! A Christmas Eve celebration of our Lord’s birth is a long standing tradition at St. John’s.  Whether you have been attending for decades or this is your first time, I invite you to join in celebrating this holiest of nights.  The secular observance of Christmas includes much fun and merriment, but it cannot compare with the deep JOY we experience when we take time to remember and celebrate its real meaning. As St. Athanasius said fifteen hundred years ago: “Christ became like us so that we might become like Christ.” Now, that is something worth celebrating!   Christmas Blessings, Fr. Ray+

This coming Sunday, December 18, we will be dedicating new choir robes during our worship service.  These beautiful new robes are a gift from the Morris and Bernie families in memory of Walter Morris IV.  We dedicate these new robes to the glory of God and in memory of one whose brief life impacted many people across our country and in far off countries, too.  Also, we affirm the importance of music as a means of bringing glory to God and joy to the human heart.  As we prepare to dedicate these new robes, we also express our appreciation to our choir and their director, Jack Myers.  Their ministry in our midst is truly a gift!  Blessings---Fr. Ray +

Christmas Eve is less than two weeks away!  St. John’s will celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior at 5:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve.  This lovely service will include candlelight and special music by Katherine and Rachel Wright.  This is a wonderful opportunity to invite friends and family to come and remember the real meaning of Christmas.  ---- Fr. Ray+

Samaritan’s Purse:  Thank you so much for your participation in this great ministry!  I’m so excited to tell you that our area collected a total of 922 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.  That is up 346 boxes from 2015.  We are already making plans for next year’s collection.  This message was from Pat Harrison, Relay Center Coordinator.  St. John’s donated 112 boxes in 2016 to this operation. Thank you to everyone for sharing your goodwill.
