What Do You Love About St. John’s?

The month of October will be Stewardship Month at St. John’s.  Each year members and friends of the congregation are invited to share ways in which St. John’s is a blessing to them or reasons they give financially to support the mission and ministry of the church.  You are invited to submit your blessings and reasons for being supportive to the church office.  With your permission we will print them in our October newsletters.  These submissions can be mailed to the church office, email to office@saintjohnshelena.org, dropped off at the church office, or placed in an envelope in the offering plate on Sunday morning.

Blessing of the Animals on October 16

As we have done the last few years, St. John’s will join with First United Methodist Church for the Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 16 from 3 to 5 p.m.  One BIG change this year is that the event will take place at the Helena West-Helena Humane Society facility at 9518 Phillips 300 Road. (Old Little Rock Road.) All animals and their humans are invited!

The Blessing of the Animals Event is usually held on or near the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, which falls on October 6.  The event is being held a little later this year due to the Blues Festival.  In the spirit of St. Francis, it is hoped that holding this year’s event at the Humane Society will serve to remind all of us of the many homeless animals in our community as well as provide opportunity for those who may be considering adopting a new pet.  Fr. Ray

Please keep the following in your prayers:

Buddy Wheeler, Buddy Byrd, Carol Jennings, Sam Harris, Jim Howe, Jr., Susan Gibbs Worrell, Jeffrey Mink, Richard Hargraves, Elena Hinderer, Sharon Hinderer, Belinda Hyslip, Walter Morris, Sr., Pat Wheeler, Dr. Marion McDaniel, Lena Cunningham, Sarah Myers, and Donna Drewry (Marjie’s sister-in-law), and the family of Joyce St. Columbia.

FAMILY BURNED OUT OF HOME

Earlier this week I learned of a local family of 5 who was burned out of their home.  I spoke with a representative of the Red Cross who confirmed the family’s situation.  Please review this list to see if you have any items in your garage or attic that could be donated to this family.  The Red Cross helped them move into a mobile home, so space is limited.  Children’s clothing needs have been somewhat met through a gift from the OPM trust. Other needs include:

  • Kitchen table and chairs
  • Bed frames and mattresses
  • Toddler bed (for a 2-year-old)
  • Sofa and chairs
  • Window air conditioner
  • Box fans
  • Mom:  size 14 pants, XL shirts/blouses, size 9 shoes
  • Dad:  34 X 32 pants, XL shirts, size 10 shoes

Thanks for helping where you can!                Fr. Ray+
