St. John’s Episcopal Church             Sunday, April 24 2016

 
WORSHIP AND EDUCATION NEWS:
 
ADULT EDUCATION:  Sunday, April 24th, at 9:00 am.  We will continue to focus on the study of Matthew with Chapter 24. (N.T. Wright’s book).
 
SUNDAY SCHOOL:   Will meet at 9:00 at the First United Methodist Church.
 
WORSHIP:  April 24th, the Holy Eucharist, Rite II, with Rev. Ray Brown. 
 
READINGS for this Sunday (Fifth Sunday of Easter) are:  Acts 11:1-18; Psalm 148;
 Revelation 21:1-6; John 13:31-35.
 
MIDWEEK EUCHARIST will be in the chapel Thursday, April 28th, at 12:00 noon.
 
 
 PASTORAL NEWS:
 
 St. John’s Good Samaritans (ECW):  Please feel free to call Maureen Jones (404-697-7197) or Jeannie Turley (870-816-6387) if you are in need of some help with errands or transportation or food, or if you would just like some company.

OUTREACH NEWS:
 
The Samaritan’s Purse:  Donations that will fit in a shoe box can be placed in the basket by front door.  Donations for April is:  Clothes for boys age 5-9.
 
Angels of Grace and Anchor Mission Ministry: The item from their wish list this week is toilet tissue. A plastic tub for each is located at the stair landing just outside the chapel.
 
Humane Society of the Delta:  Donations needed are cat litter, dog food and large bath towels.  A large donation tub has been placed with the others.

April 29th, Friday, at 5:30 pm, Celebration of a New Ministry with the Bishop Larry Benfield and honored clergy will officiate in the induction of Rev. Ray Brown as our Rector.
 
From Fr. Ray:  If you would like to serve as an oblationer at Sunday worship, please sign up on the sheet provided on the table with the bulletins.  Oblationers are those who bring the bread and wine forward during the offertory.  One person can bring both the bread and the wine or two persons can bring one element each.
 
Royce joins me in saying a big THANK YOU to everyone for the warm welcome we have received at St. John’s.  Your many acts of kindness and support have made us feel right at home.  Please know my door is always open and I look forward to getting know all of our St. John’s family.  I have met so many wonderful people in our congregation and in the broader Helena-West Helena community.  It is indeed a joy to be here!  Blessings—Fr. Thursday, April 28, at 7:30 pm, Romeo and Juliet presented by the Moscow Festival Ballet in the Lily Peter Auditorium at the college.
 
Sunday, May 1st, at 6:00 pm, Outdoor Concert and Picnic with the Memphis Symphony Big Band will play.

St. John’s Episcopal Church             Sunday, April 3, 2016

 
COME ONE! COME ALL!  THE TIME IS HERE.  We want to give a big welcome for our new priest, the Rev. Ray Brown and his wife Royce, to St. John’s and Helena.  Hope to see you all in church Sunday and at the pot luck lunch.
 
 
WORSHIP AND EDUCATION NEWS:
 
ADULT EDUCATION: Class will resume Sunday, April 3, at its regular time (9:00 am).  We will continue to focus on the study of Matthew with Chapter 22 (N.T. Wright’s book).
 
SUNDAY SCHOOL:  Class will resume meeting at 9:00 at the First United Methodist Church.
 
WORSHIP:  April 3rd, the Holy Eucharist, Rite II, with Rev. Ray Brown.  Immediately following the service there will be a pot luck lunch in the undercroft.
 
READINGS for this Sunday (Second Sunday of Easter) are:  Acts 5:27-32; Psalm 150; Revelation 1:4-8; John 20:19-31.
 
MIDWEEK EUCHARIST will be in the chapel THURSDAY, April 7th, at 12:00 noon. “Picnic in the Pews” will follow the service (Light Lunch).
 
PASTORAL NEWS:
 
Pastoral Visitors:  Angie Fielder & Meghan FielderEach week the pastoral visitor (or visitors) will visit the members of St. John’s that are either sick or shut-in.

WORSHIP& EDUCATION NEWS:
 
ADULT EDUCATION/SUNDAY SCHOOL:   
 
No classes Sunday March 27.  We will resume on April 3.
 
Sunday, March 27th, at 9:45 the flowering of the cross in the sanctuary.
 
WORSHIP:   Easter Day, March 27th, the Holy Eucharist, Rite II, with Rev. Louis Hayden from Germantown, TN, as our visiting priest.  Holy Baptism for Waylon Woods Pittman will be today.
 
READINGS for this Sunday of the Resurrection are:  Acts 10:34-43; Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24;
1 Corinthians 15:19-26; Luke 24:1-12.
 
Be sure to fill your Mite Boxes. These will be collected on Easter and the children of the parish will bring them forward during offertory.
 
Egg hunt and reception will immediately follow the service on the front lawn.
 
Evening Prayer is at 5:30 in the chapel for Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday and Holy Wednesday.
 
Maundy Thursday, March 24th, service will be at 5:30 in the sanctuary with Rev. Bill Burks from Humboldt, TN officiating.
 
READINGS for Maundy Thursday areExodus 12:1-1 [5-10], 11-14; Psalm 116:1, 10-17;
1 Corinthians 11:23-26; John 13:1-17, 31b-35.
 
Good Friday Liturgy, March 25th at 12 noon with Bill Burks officiating.   At 5:30, we walk the Stations of the Cross.
 
ALTAR GUILD NEWS:
 
All Altar Guild members are needed for Maundy Thursday.
Altar Guild will meet Saturday, March 26th to prepare the sanctuary for Holy Easter.

Angels of Grace The item from their wish list this week is paper towels for the women’s shelter. Please place you items in the plastic tub at the stair landing just outside the chapel coming up from the undercroft.
 
Anchor Mission Ministry Box: This week’s donation item is paper towels.  Their donation box is located off the chapel in the stairwell next to the Angels of Grace box.
 
Humane Society of the Delta:  Donations needed are cat litter, laundry detergent and large bath towels.  A large donation tub has been placed with the others off the chapel stairwell or you can call 870-753-2119 or 870-995-2379 and they will pick up your donation.  You may also take your donation directly to the shelter, 9518 Phillips 300 Rd. between the hours of 7-10 am or 2-5 pm.

Friday, March 25th at noon the Good Friday Liturgy with Bill Burks officiating.
 
Friday, March 25th at 5:30, we walk the Stations of the Cross.
 
Saturday, March 26th at 10:00 all altar guild members will meet to polish and prepare the altar for Easter.

Sunday, March 27th at 9:45 the flowering of the cross in the main sanctuary followed by the High Holy Easter Mass with Holy Baptism Of Waylon Woods Pittman at 10:30 with Rev. Louis Hayden from Germantown officiating.
