WORSHIP& EDUCATION NEWS:
 
ADULT EDUCATION: Sunday, February 7th, at 9:00 am until 10:00 am.  We are currently studying the gospel of Matthew using N. T. Wright’s book.
 
SUNDAY SCHOOL will be held at 9:00 at the First United Methodist Church.
 
WORSHIP: February 7th, Morning Prayer, Rite I, with Jack Myers reading.
 
 READINGS for this Sunday are:   Exodus 34:29-35; Psalm 99; II Corinthians 3:12-4:2;
 Luke 9:28-36 [37-43a].
 
SHROVE TUESDAY supper at 5:30 on February 9th.
 
ASH WEDNESDAY HOLY EUCHARIST WITH THE IMPOSITION OF ASHES AT 5:30 IN THE CHAPEL ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10th.
 
 
PASTORAL NEWS:
 
Pastoral Visitors: Allison Biederman.  This is a new ministry.  The duty runs from Sunday to the next Sunday.  Each week the pastoral visitor or visitors will visit the members of St. John’s that are either sick or shut-in.
 
St. John’s Good Samaritans (ECW):  Please feel free to call Maureen Jones (404-697-7197) or Jeannie Turley (870-816-6387) if you are in need of some help with errands or transportation or food, or if you would just like some company.  These and other members of the church have graciously offered their time to assist anyone needing help.  If you would like to volunteer services, please let Maureen or Jeannie know.

OUTREACH NEWS:
 
The Samaritan’s Purse: To be announced
 
Angels of Grace The item from their wish list this week is bath soap and wash cloths for the women’s shelter. Please place you items in the plastic tub at the stair landing just outside the chapel coming up from the undercroft. Our boxes are now bare.
 
Anchor Mission Ministry Box: This week’s donation item is bath soap and wash cloths. They will accept donations for personal hygiene (deodorant, soap bars, tooth brush and tooth paste, wash cloths & towels, shampoo) laundry detergent, paper towels and toilet tissue.  Their donation box is located off the chapel in the stairwell next to the Angels of Grace box.
 
Humane Society of the Delta:  They have made a request for donations of large bath towels, laundry detergent and cat litter.  A large donation tub has been placed with the others off the chapel stairwell or you can call 870-753-2119 or 870-995-2379 and they will pick up your donation.  You may also take your donation directly to the shelter, 9518 Phillips 300 Rd. between the hours of 7-10 am or 2-5 pm.

ECW will meet on Monday, February 8th, at Grace Henderson’s.  All who would like will meet at the parking lot of the old Kroger at 5:00 to caravan to Marvell.  We need to leave by 5:10, the meeting begins at 5:30.
 
Vestry meeting on Monday, February 15th, at 5:30.
 
The United Methodist Women of the Helena United Methodist Church cordially invite everyone to attend Lenten Listening services beginning Ash Wednesday, February 10th, at 12:00 Noon each week.  These services will continue each week on Wednesday through March 23rd.  Bring your own sandwich and they will furnish the beverage and dessert. A nursery will be provided.  The speaker for February 10th is Paula Oliver and special music will be Elizabeth & Caroline Stephens.
 
St. Mary’s Catholic Church Mardi Gras Seafood Dinner will be Friday, February 5th beginning at 5:00 until 8:00 pm at St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Seafood Dinner Tickets are $15.00.  This includes Shrimp Etoufee, Jambayla, French Bread, Coleslaw, Cake and Beverage. Carry outs will be available.  Also available at an additional cost will be Oysters on the Half-Shells and Pickled Shrimp.
