St. John’s Episcopal Church             Sunday, February 28, 2016

 
WORSHIP& EDUCATION NEWS:
 
ADULT EDUCATION: Sunday, February 28, at 9:00 am until 10:00 am.  We are currently studying the gospel of Matthew using N.T. Wright’s book.
 
SUNDAY SCHOOL will be held at 9:00 at the First United Methodist Church.
 
WORSHIP:   February 28, Morning Prayer, Rite I, with Susan Carter reading.
 
READINGS for this Sunday (Third Sunday in Lent) are:  Exodus 3:1-15; Psalm 63:1-8;
 I Corinthians 10:1-13; Luke 13:1-9.
 
Easter Lilies order form will be included in your bulletin.
 
HOLY EUCHARIST will be held in the chapel at 12:00 noon on March 3rd.  Arnold Hearn will be our celebrant.  A lite lunch will be provided by the ECW immediately afterwards.
 
EVENING PRAYER is at 5:30 in the chapel Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday throughout Lent.
 
 
PASTORAL NEWS:
 
Pastoral Visitors: Ann Lee.  This is a new ministry.  The duty runs from Sunday to the next Sunday.  Each week the pastoral visitor or visitors will visit the members of St. John’s that are either sick or shut-in.
 
St. John’s Good Samaritans (ECW):  Please feel free to call Maureen Jones (404-697-7197) or Jeannie Turley (870-816-6387) if you are in need of some help with errands or transportation or food, or if you would just like some company.  These and other members of the church have graciously offered their time to assist anyone needing help.  If you would like to volunteer services, please let Maureen or Jeannie know.

 OUTREACH NEWS:
 
The Samaritan’s Purse:  Donations that will fit in a shoe box can be placed in the basket by front door.  Needed for February are toys including balls, trucks and cars (not military), dolls, and puzzles that are age appropriate.
 
Angels of GraceThe item from their wish list this week is cleaning supplies for the women’s shelter. Please place you items in the plastic tub at the stair landing just outside the chapel coming up from the undercroft.
 
Anchor Mission Ministry Box: This week’s donation item is cleaning supplies. They will accept donations for personal hygiene (deodorant, soap bars, tooth brush and tooth paste, wash cloths & towels, shampoo) laundry detergent, paper towels and toilet tissue.  It is located on the bypass.  Their donation box is located off the chapel in the stairwell next to the Angels of Grace box.
 
Humane Society of the Delta:  They have made a request for donations of cat litter, laundry detergent and large bath towels.  A large donation tub has been placed with the others off the chapel stairwell or you can call 870-753-2119 or 870-995-2379 and they will pick up your donation.  You may also take your donation directly to the shelter, 9518 Phillips 300 Rd. between the hours of 7-10 am or 2-5 pm.

HOLY EUCHARIST will be held on Thursday each week at 12:00 Noon, beginning February 18th and continuing through March 17th.  Our celebrant will be Rev. Arnold Hearn.  Immediately after a lite lunch will be provided by the ECW.
 
Easter Lily order forms will be in your bulletin.  The price of the lilies is $16.00.  Please make checks payable to St. John’s Altar Guild.  The last day to turn in your Easter lily donation form and have it printed in the program is Friday, March 18.  You may pick up these forms in the church office also, or Marjie can email you a copy.
 
The United Methodist Women of the Helena United Methodist Church cordially invite everyone to attend Lenten Listening services each Wednesday at 12:00 Noon.  These services will continue each week on Wednesday through March 23rd.  The speaker for March 3rd is Grace Henderson and special music will be Don Eastman.  Bring a sandwich and the ladies of the church will furnish the beverage and dessert. A nursery will be provided.
