St. John’s Episcopal Church             Sunday, April 24 2016

 
WORSHIP AND EDUCATION NEWS:
 
ADULT EDUCATION:  Sunday, April 24th, at 9:00 am.  We will continue to focus on the study of Matthew with Chapter 24. (N.T. Wright’s book).
 
SUNDAY SCHOOL:   Will meet at 9:00 at the First United Methodist Church.
 
WORSHIP:  April 24th, the Holy Eucharist, Rite II, with Rev. Ray Brown. 
 
READINGS for this Sunday (Fifth Sunday of Easter) are:  Acts 11:1-18; Psalm 148;
 Revelation 21:1-6; John 13:31-35.
 
MIDWEEK EUCHARIST will be in the chapel Thursday, April 28th, at 12:00 noon.
 
 
 PASTORAL NEWS:
 
 St. John’s Good Samaritans (ECW):  Please feel free to call Maureen Jones (404-697-7197) or Jeannie Turley (870-816-6387) if you are in need of some help with errands or transportation or food, or if you would just like some company. 
 
Please keep the following in your prayers:  Marie Simon, Buddy Wheeler, Buddy Byrd, Carol Jennings, Blanche Choate, Sam Harris, Leslie Galloway, Jim Howe, Jr., Nina Zachary, Janet Juengel, William Millard, Susan Gibbs Worrell, and Walt Morris.
 
 
OUTREACH NEWS:
 
The Samaritan’s Purse:  Donations that will fit in a shoe box can be placed in the basket by front door.  Donations for April is:  Clothes for boys age 5-9.
 
Angels of Grace and Anchor Mission Ministry: The item from their wish list this week is toilet tissue. A plastic tub for each is located at the stair landing just outside the chapel.
 
Humane Society of the Delta:  Donations needed are cat litter, dog food and large bath towels.  A large donation tub has been placed with the others.
 
 
 
CHURCH OFFICE NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS:

April 29th, Friday, at 5:30 pm, Celebration of a New Ministry with the Bishop Larry Benfield and honored clergy will officiate in the induction of Rev. Ray Brown as our Rector.
 
From Fr. Ray:  If you would like to serve as an oblationer at Sunday worship, please sign up on the sheet provided on the table with the bulletins.  Oblationers are those who bring the bread and wine forward during the offertory.  One person can bring both the bread and the wine or two persons can bring one element each.
 
Royce joins me in saying a big THANK YOU to everyone for the warm welcome we have received at St. John’s.  Your many acts of kindness and support have made us feel right at home.  Please know my door is always open and I look forward to getting know all of our St. John’s family.  I have met so many wonderful people in our congregation and in the broader Helena-West Helena community.  It is indeed a joy to be here!  Blessings—Fr. WARFIELD CONCERTS:
 
Thursday, April 28, at 7:30 pm, Romeo and Juliet presented by the Moscow Festival Ballet in the Lily Peter Auditorium at the college.
 
Sunday, May 1st, at 6:00 pm, Outdoor Concert and Picnic with the Memphis Symphony Big Band will play.
