There is a new outreach project at St. John’s. As you know, we support Grace Food pantry financially each month and with volunteers from the church. Each week the food is packed in plastic grocery/Walmart bags and handed out. These bags are donated by individuals and various churches so no money is used for bags, but can be used to purchase food for the recipients.

We will have a labeled container in the narthex for any plastic bags you might want to donate. It is a great way to recycle, help Grace Food pantry and those in need in our community.

Thanks for your bags and support. Father Ray will take the bags to the pantry on the days he volunteers.

Freeman Playground: Join Will and Misti Staley for the groundbreaking of the Freeman Playground in honor of their son Freeman Ellis Staley. Freeman passed away in February at 10 months old, after spending all but 5 weeks of his short life at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. Will and Misti spent every day by his side making his life full of love and as fun as possible.

“The Freeman Playground will not only honor Freeman’s life, but the lives of all the children in Helena-West Helena that have left this world a little too soon,” said Misti Freeman Staley, Freeman’s mother. “The mission of Freeman Playground will be to provide children and families of all ability levels with a safe, healthy, and fun place to play.”

The nearest American Disabilities Act (ADA) playground with ramps in Arkansas is 87 miles away in Jonesboro, which will make the Freeman Playground the first of its kind in Phillips County - allowing wheelchair bound children the freedom to play alongside children without disability,” said Will Staley, Freeman’s Father.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Freeman Playground is set for Friday, July 8th, Noon-1:30pm at the corner of Beech and Market Streets in downtown, Helena. St. John’s Episcopal Church, 3 blocks from the Freeman Playground, will provide hot dogs, chips, watermelon, and water. Come meet your neighbors, have lunch, and find out more about the Freeman Playground.

Fundraising will continue for the Freeman Playground in hopes of an opening this Fall.

To keep up with the progress of the Freeman Playground, like their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/freemanplayground. For more information on how to donate, make an in-kind donation, or volunteer contact Misti Freeman Staley at 770-490-9973.
