Hope For The Future is a program offered through Alzheimer’s Arkansas.  While living in Little Rock I attended this event and found in to be greatly helpful as I dealt with family members of persons with dementia.  When my mother was diagnosed with dementia and I moved her from Florida to Arkansas I found Alzheimer’s Arkansas, and particularly Hope For The Future, to be a tremendous resource.  If you have a loved one with dementia, or if you just want to know more about caring for those with dementia, I enthusiastically recommend this program.  It will be a half-day well spent.  Please call me if you would like to know more about this opportunity that is coming to Helena on Friday, September 9 at UAMS East.  Additional information about this event can be found in next week's newsletter.  Blessings! -- Fr. Ray

One Hundredth Birthday Celebration:  Plans are underway for the 100th Birthday Celebration of the St. John’s church building on October 21-23 of this year.   The Birthday Committee held its first meeting on May 17.  The following persons have volunteered to head up the various teams that will be working to ensure we have a wonderful celebration:

Chairperson of Birthday Committee:  Maureen Jones

Invitations and Addresses:  Angie Fielder

Food:  Julie Pittman

Displays and Memorabilia:  Grace Henderson

Decorations:  Carla Myers

Please consider which of these groups you would like to help with and let the team leader know.  As of this time plans include a Wine and Cheese Reception on Friday evening, Worship Service on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner/reception in the undercroft.   More information will be provided in future newsletters.

St John’s historical records "Back in the day" (as they say), children were awarded pins if they had perfect attendance at Sunday School. Not so today, so if we hurt Tom Miller’s or Jack Hornor's feelings by telling that when they were just little boys in 1955 they missed 9 or 10 Sundays out of 52 in a year, we apologize, and we admit that our own adult attendance isn't perfect, either.  To have been in Sunday school 41 and 42 out of 52 weeks is actually mighty good

The Women's Missionary Society in 1879 paid the monthly salary for the organist. The salary was $8.00 per month.

Office:  If you know anyone that needs to be on the prayer list please contact the office in order to include them in the newsletter and the bulletins.  We also need to know when someone should be taken off.  Email, text or call, your help is greatly appreciated.
