St. John’s Episcopal Church                 Sunday, November 20, 2016

This coming Sunday is the last Sunday in Pentecost, which means it is the final Sunday in the liturgical year.  Next week we start the liturgical cycle all over again as we enter Advent. It is fitting that the last Sunday of the church year is called Christ the King Sunday.  As we look back on a year of divisiveness in politics, wars abroad, terrorist attacks at home, suffering of the innocent and racial and class tensions it is good to remember that our primary allegiance is not to the principalities and powers of this world.  Christ is King and it is to him that we have given ourselves in our baptismal vows. The Apostle Paul, in writing to first century Christians in Galatia, reminded them that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  The fact that those qualities are lacking in most parts of our world just goes to show how very different the Kingdom of Christ is from the kingdoms of the world.  As we come to the end of the church year and begin a new one, let us remember that Christ, and Christ alone, is King.  Blessings, Fr. Ray +

Wednesday Evenings @ 6:30 p.m.

Thursday Mornings @ 10:30 a.m.

The change in class times is designed to allow those who wish to do so to attend one of our mid-week Eucharistic Services. On Wednesdays you can attend the Eucharist at 5:30 p.m. and remain for the study group at 6:30 p.m.  On Thursdays you can attend the study group at 10:30 a.m. and remain for the Eucharist at noon.

A sign-up sheet for the Advent Study Classes is located on the table at the back of the church. Or, you can sign up by calling or mailing the church office.  Signing up ahead of time helps me make sure I have adequate books for all participants. Blessings! Fr. Ray+
