Lent at St. John’s
In the Book of Common Prayer we are called "to the observance of a Holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God's Holy Word" (BCP, p. 265). March 1, our Ash Wednesday Service will be at 5:30 p.m. As we did last year, we will have a Picnic in the Pews luncheon and Eucharist on Thursdays at noon beginning March 2. Sunday worship will follow Rite I with Eucharist. So, please mark your calendar as you plan for a “Holy Lent.” Blessings, Fr. Ray +
Lenten Class
During Lent I will be leading a class entitled “5 Marks of Love”, which has been described as “A discipleship offering inspired by the Anglican Marks of Mission.” Each class will include a brief video presentation as well as questions and discussions of what it means to live life marked as Christ’s own. The class will meet in the undercroft at 9:15 each Sunday morning beginning February 26. All study materials will be provided free of charge. Blessings, Fr. Ray +
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday and falls on February 28 this year. This date, of course, is also known as Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday. We will observe Shrove Tuesday with a pancake supper from 5 p.m. till 6:30 p.m. at the church. All are invited!
Outdoor Chairs Challenge!
With the dedication of the Gloria Y. Tappan Memorial Walkway, we are looking forward to using our lovely Garden more in the coming year. We would like to purchase 48 folding outdoor style chairs for such events. A challenge gift has been made for the purchase of these chairs. Every dollar given will be matched, up to $500.00. The cost per chair is approximately $25, so your gift of $25 will actually enable the purchase of two chairs. Chair donations can be made by placing a check in the offering plate, mailed or dropped off at the church office.
