St. John’s Episcopal Church - Sunday, May 19, 2019

From Fr. Ray+

In addition to our Sunday celebration of the Eucharist, St. John’s offers two other opportunities to nourish your spiritual life.  Our mid-week celebration of the Eucharist is observed at 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday.  On the first Wednesday of the month we have a Healing Eucharist with unction (anointing with oil) for all who desire it, followed by Holy Communion.

The adult Sunday School class meets each week at 9:15 in the undercroft.  We enjoy warm fellowship and interesting discussions of topics pertinent to spiritual growth.  Within the next few weeks we will be wrapping up a study by Church of England Bishop N.T. Wright.  Our next study is entitled Discussing Mere Christianity.   I will be providing more information about this study in the coming weeks.  In the meantime, here is a brief description of the study:

In this eight-session video group study, you will discover why Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis is one of the most read and beloved Christian books of all time. But seventy years later from when it was first delivered on radio, what relevance does it have to our world   today? Host Eric Metaxas and a variety of Christian leaders-including Philip Yancey, Alister McGrath, Devin Brown, Paul McCusker, Douglas Gresham, and others-help us understand the timeless message of C. S. Lewis in fresh ways for a new generation.

As always, all are welcome!

Blessings, Fr. Ray+

ECW will meet today at Carla Myers home. May 13, Mon at 5:00 pm

Thanks to the generosity of our congregation we have been able to help a young single mother who left an abusive relationship earlier this year.  She stayed at the Battered Women’s Shelter for a while and was eventually able to move into public housing in Elaine.  The good news is that this young woman has secured a full-time job at the Boot Factory in Dewitt and is working 50+ hours per week.  Her greatest need at this time is beds for her two children.  If anyone has a used bed or bunkbeds that you would be willing to donate please let me know.  I’m sure any used bedroom furniture such as chests of drawers or dressers would be welcome, too.  If you would like to donate something, let me know and I will arrange for it to be picked up and delivered to her.

Thanks, Fr. Ray+
