St. John’s Episcopal Church Sunday, November 6, 2016
Giving and Celebrating!
This coming Sunday, November 6, is our opportunity to GIVE THANKS, GIVE BACK and CELEBRATE TOGETHER! During our worship we will give thanks by remembering our loved ones who have gone on before us. Please call the office if you would like to add someone to our list of Beloved Departed. These names will be read aloud during worship. We will give back by placing our 2017 Estimate of Giving Cards in the offering plate. If you are unable to be present this Sunday, cards can be mailed to the church office, dropped off at the office or placed in the offering plate on a different Sunday. Extra Estimate of Giving cards will be available on the table at the back of the church. We will celebrate together by sharing lunch together in the undercroft following worship. This is NOT a potluck, so you do not need to bring a dish to share. Just come and enjoy lunch! I hope you can be there. It just wouldn’t be the same without you! Blessings---Fr. Ray +
Daylight savings time ends Nov. 6, don’t forget to set your clocks back Saturday night.

St. John’s Episcopal Church Sunday, October 30, 2016
The simple words “Thank You” seem inadequate for the prayer, preparation and hard work done by our Hundredth Birthday Committee and their many helpers! Last Saturday’s Eucharist and Dinner will be long remembered as a time of inspiring worship and fellowship with members, friends and former members. I enjoyed meeting so many folks who used to call St. John’s “home.” It was evident their love remains with us even though they have moved to other parts of the state and country.
We will gather as a church again on Sunday, November 6, for a potluck lunch following worship. Please plan to join us as, once again, we celebrate the joy of serving Christ together.

Stewardship Commitment Cards To Be Received on November 6
All members and friends are encouraged to turn in their 2017 Estimate of Giving Cards on Sunday, November 6. You may place your card in the offering plate during worship, mail it to the church office or place it in the offering plate on a different Sunday if you cannot be present on the 6th. We recently celebrated the 100th Birthday of our lovely church building. The generosity of previous generations built and maintained our present building. Their offerings supported missions at home and abroad. Our stewardship enables the continuation of Christ’s mission in the world today.

Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 16
As we have done the last few years, St. John’s will join with First United Methodist Church for the Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, October 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. One BIG change this year is that the event will take place at the Helena West-Helena Humane Society facility at 9518 Phillips 300 Road. (Old Little Rock Road.) All animals and their humans are invited!
The Blessing of the Animals Event is usually held on or near the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, which falls on October 6. The event is being held a little later this year due to the Blues Festival. In the spirit of St. Francis, it is hoped that holding this year’s event at the Humane Society will serve to remind all of us of the many homeless animals in our community as well as provide opportunity for those who may be considering adopting a new pet. Fr. Ray

We are only ONE WEEK away from our Hundredth Birthday Celebration on Saturday, October 22! The committee working on this event has done a splendid job planning and organizing for this milestone in the life of St. John’s. I hope you are planning to be present for this joyous occasion. While we are thankful for the lovely building in which we worship, we are even more grateful for the hundreds of people who have worshipped in it over the course of the last century. They came week after week to hear God’s word proclaimed, partake of the Blessed Sacrament, experience Christian fellowship and be sent forth to live out the Gospel in word and deed. Some of their pictures are on display in the undercroft. Though gone from our physical presence they still join us in the great song of the saints before the throne of God. “Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might! Heaven and earth are full of your glory!” Indeed it is! --- Fr. Ray
